Arizona State Parks and Trails is inviting nature enthusiasts to celebrate Earth Day at Red Rock State Park this weekend.
The state’s parks authority says it will be holding an Earth Day celebration on April 20 at this scenic destination located almost in the dead center of Arizona. Red Rock State Park is about a 14-minute drive from Sedona, a city popular with tourists.
The normal park entry fee will be waived for the day. The Red Rock State Park managers are planning guided hikes to explore the area’s unique geology and other activities for kids and adults. Programs will run from 10 am to 2 pm.
The Earth Day festivities are in addition to the normal activities and natural attractions that Red Rock State Park already has to offer. The area around Sedona has long been considered sacred to Native Americans. The unique and beautiful giant sandstone formations surrounding Sedona, including Cathedral Rock, also attract fans of the New Age movement.
“The park offers a visitors center with exhibits on the habitat and wildlife, a theater that presents an educational film on the local watershed, a park gift store, a ramada, and hiking trails that provide scenic views of the creek and Sedona’s famous red rock formations,” Arizona State Parks and Trails said in its announcement.
