It just got a little pricier for people to enjoy Arizona’s stunning state parks.
Arizona State Parks and Trails announced that it is raising usage fees for the vast majority of its holdings. Fees went up at 30 of Arizona’s 33 state parks.
ASPT said the increase is unfortunate but necessary as costs rise and adjustments must be made to keep the state parks staffed and in working order.
The agency doesn’t receive tax dollars to help fund its operations.
“Arizona State Parks and Trails is a self-sustaining agency, not reliant on general funding to operate the 33 parks,” its office said in a release. “Staffing at the parks, maintenance, and general operational expenses are all paid for with revenue raised through entrance, camping and tour fees.”
Entrance fees, overnight camping fees, and the cost of tickets for special park tours are now a bit higher. The price hike took effect on February 25.
ASPT also did away with its standard annual state park pass, which only cost $75 per year but came with park usage restrictions.
Now, parks enthusiasts will only have the option of purchasing the $200 “premium” pass which is now the only annual pass option available. The pass comes with no particular restrictions other than the usual rules and regulations in place at Arizona’s state parks.
$200 will get you access to “includes all parks with no restrictions,” the agency clarified.
“This will provide entry for up to four adults in a single vehicle into all parks for one year.”
Travelers will be able to access at least one Arizona state park for three this weekend.
Arizona State Parks and Trails says it’s inviting the public to enjoy free admission to Roper Lake State Park on March 1. The park, located in the state’s southeast, is marking its 50th anniversary this weekend, thus the promotion.
“This event will showcase recent park improvements designed to enhance the visitor experience.”
