Alaska calling: The state’s travel authority launches bid to lure more visitors

Location: Alaska national parks, Alaska, USA

Alaska travel industry authorities are inviting everyone to explore the Last Frontier this summer, highlighting upcoming events and opportunities.

The Alaska Travel Industry Association says changes are forthcoming that make it an ideal time to visit the state.

The biggest change: A section of road in Denali National Park that’s been closed for more than 43 years is slated to be reopened in 2027. That means easier access to the park next year, but a final opportunity for adventurous types this year.

“This will be the last summer that visitors to the park’s backcountry lodges — Camp Denali, Denali Backcountry Lodge and Kantishna Roadhouse — will basically have the place to themselves,” ATIA says.

Other new opportunities include a new helicopter tour service of nearby glaciers launching from Anchorage and a wildlife migration festival launching for the first time in Haines beginning May 1.

Alaska is home to eight national parks.
