The body of a missing hiker swept away in flash floods was discovered midday Sunday, the United States National Park Service announced.
33-year-old Chenoa Nickerson of Gilbert, Arizona had been missing since Thursday after a flash flood at Havasu Canyon swept her and her husband away.
The sudden flash floods trapped more than a hundred visitors at the bottom of the Canyon.
Nickerson’s husband survived, but a search-and-rescue team searched for the missing wife throughout the weekend in the hopes that she was still alive, as well.
Those hopes were dashed yesterday.
Nickerson’s body “was discovered by a commercial river trip near river mile 176 in the Colorado River,” the Park Service said in a release. “Park rangers responded and recovered the body, which was transported to the rim by helicopter and transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner.”
In a separate incident, authorities are still searching for a man who went missing at a park in Utah.
Francis Userovici, a 76-year-old visitor from France, has been missing in Arches National Park since at least August 16.
Park rangers discovered Userovici abandoned rental vehicle in the park.
Though he went missing more than a week ago, the full search for Userovici wasn’t launched until last Saturday. The National Park Service is asking for the public’s help in locating him.
