New state park opens in Tennessee

Location: Middle Fork Bottoms State Park, Tennessee, USA

Travelers in Tennessee are invited to explore the state’s newest state park, which opened this week.

Middle Fork Bottoms State Park can be found in the western portion of the state just north of the community of Jackson and southeast of Humboldt.

Tennessee State Parks opened the new attraction to the public on Monday.

All are invited to enjoy the state’s newest public park and natural attraction.

Officials said Middle Fork Bottoms State Park was born out of an effort to better manage flooding from the region’s waterways. Some 250,000 hardwood tree species were planted there and 200 acres of wetlands were restored for the public to enjoy.

“Spanning approximately 860 acres, this park transformed from a floodplain restoration project in 2018 into a thriving habitat,” Tennessee State Parks said.

Middle Fork Bottoms State Park visitors can walk four miles of trails and fish in four of the five lakes found at the park. There’s even a grove featuring bald cypress trees roughly five acres in size.

Wild animals are also present, especially wetland species.

“Middle Fork Bottoms State Park offers a unique blend of rich history and natural beauty,” managers said.
