Three deaths in under two weeks at a Colorado state park have visitors on edge and authorities scrambling to solve a double homicide.
Lake Pueblo State Park is located in south-central Colorado, USA, just outside the community of Pueblo. The park is a popular spot for swimming, fishing, boating, and camping.
Visitors are being asked to exercise extra caution and to assist in an investigation after two individuals were shot dead at the park at around midnight on Friday last week.
“The incident occurred just after midnight at the Sailboard Beach area on the north shore of the lake, not far from the dam, where a group was fishing from shore,” Colorado Parks and Wildlife reported.
CPW said it was called to the scene at around 12:45 am. The county sheriff’s office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation also responded.
Witnesses said a single gunman fled after shooting the two victims, both of whom were pronounced dead at the scene. Officials hadn’t identified the victims at press time.
CPW says most of Lake Pueblo State Park remains open except for the scene of the crime and the immediate surrounding areas. CPW’s office says the crime is still under investigation and no arrests have been made.
CPW says it will refer all further inquiries to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
Just days before the double homicide, a swimmer reportedly drowned at Pueblo Lake State Park.
On June 15, rescue swimmers located the body of the apparent drowning victim about 75 feet from the shoreline in moderately deep waters, roughly 6 feet or 2 meters deep.
Someone had reported a missing swimmer at around 8:15 that evening. The victim’s body was found around 11 pm.
